If you want to build a better you, there are three powerful self improvement ideas you will want to use. They can transform a challenging uphill climb Into an amazing transformation.
In just a couple minutes you will have three ideas you can quickly put into practice to build a better you. These are the same concepts I used to build my own company, create dozens of instructional videos, and write three books.
The best part is they are easy to do!
The Old Me
If you’ve been following me for any length of time, you know I was a mess. You know I’ve made some huge mistakes. You know I used to be much heavier than I am now. And you know I have been a slouch for a good part of my life.
But that began to change about a decade ago. I started making changes in my life. Some were slow and some happened much more quickly. But all of them use the three powerful self improvement ideas I am about to share with you. It helped me go from 240 pounds to 175. It helped me write a lot: over a thousand blog posts, three published books, and dozens of scripts, and it helped me help a lot of people meet their potential.
All it took was a few simple steps.
Simple Steps
If you want to build a better you, I have great news for you! It doesn’t have to be a challenge. In fact it’s easy. The people that have the best success often find it very easy. Why? Because they employ the first of three powerful self improvement ideas that has helped millions start to run again: They make it easy.
Over two decades ago Josh Clark wanted to get fit. He started running. He started running with a very simple plan. It helped him become active and improve himself. It worked so well, he decided to share it.
He created a nine-week schedule that starts out with a simple 25 minute walk with 60 seconds of jogging intermittently. The schedule ends with you being able to easily run a 5k. It’s a program that millions have followed called “Couch to 5K”. The thing that makes it work is that Josh makes it easy.
If you want to build a better you, the first thing you need to do is make it easy.
Move the Needle
The second of the three powerful self improvement ideas is just as important, and it’s as easy as patting yourself on the back. Actually, it pretty much is patting yourself on the back – not literally, but figuratively.
The best way to be successful is to see the success. It’s something Florence Chadwick would tell you.
Florence Chadwick set out to swim from Catalina Island to the coast of California in 1952. She had already become the first woman to swim the English Channel so it seemed like this would be right up her alley. Only the day was full of dense fog and after fifteen hours with no shore in sight she gave in.
As the accompanying boats brought her in, she realized she was only about a mile from shore. The next day she said “… I think if I could have seen the shore, I would have made it.” (For more information on Florence Chadwick check out my post on the Two Things Keeping You from Success.)
If you want to be successful, find ways to make your success obvious. If your goal is to write a book, understanding what daily progress looks like isn’t so cut and dry. Instead, make your goal to be a certain amount of words each day so you can see a clear goal line that’s easy to achieve.
You Again?
Finally, the third of the three powerful self improvement ideas for a better you is consistency.
I have a friend who has more running medals than I have checks in my checkbook. He has racks of medals like this one:

He’s constantly asked about his skill and it frustrates him. He wishes people understood that discipline is the key to his success. He knows it’s not as important to run a lot as it is to run consistently, whether he wants to or not.
We all know the story of the tortoise and the hare. The hare was faster and more confident. Yet he lost because the tortoise was consistent. Consistent progress wins over inconsistent spurts of effort.
Three Powerful Self Improvement Ideas
If you want to build a better you, use these three powerful self improvement ideas:
- Take Simple Steps: Making gigantic effort can often be more demoralizing than productive. Try steps that are easy to manage and build into something bigger.
- Use Visible Success: It’s much easier to stay on fire about self improvement when you can see constant gains. Make your measurement for success bite-sized enough that you can bolster your confidence each day.
- Be Consistent: The reason the story of The Tortoise and the Hare resonates with us is because we understand that small pockets of immense effort are not as powerful as continued and diligent effort. With simple steps and visible success, consistency is not only the final key to success, it’s easy to implement.
The beauty of these three powerful self improvement ideas is that they’re so easy to implement in your life. Don’t delay. You made it to this point in the post for a reason. Now grab a piece of paper or open up a document and write out 1 to 3 goals you are going to focus on with a success marker you will hit each day.
For instance, maybe you want to become more active. Your success marker could be to run in place 1 minute a day 5 times a day. Then do it each day without fail. As you see progress, make small changes to make it a little more challenging, like running in place for 90 seconds at a time instead of 1 minute. (If you want a deeper understanding of creating goals, check out my post: How to Get Anything You Want in Life).
It takes just a little bit of consistent effort, but these three powerful self improvement ideas will set you well on the road to success in building a better you.
