Enjoying the Last of Summer

enjoying the last of summer

The month is winding down and so is the season, but there are still ways you can be enjoying the last of summer.

Here are just a few.

Enjoy Something Seasonal

I’ve been living in upstate New York for over a decade and one thing that continues to amaze me is the clockwork opening and closing of the local ice cream shops. It doesn’t matter how nice it is outside or how many people want ice cream, they close right after Labor Day.

There are a lot of things that we have to enjoy during the summer that just aren’t available the rest of the year, now is the time to take advantage of them. Although I personally go for dairy free ice cream, there are still other things to try out when enjoying the last of summer before they go away.

For instance, all the summer time amusement, like go karts and miniature golf. This is a great time to take one last trip around the course. (For those of you that have the type of weather that’s nice all year round, I’m shipping you some snow).

What about farmer’s markets and outdoor shops? Don’t forget about all the tastes that are best enjoyed during the summer. Now is the time to enjoy a big, juicy watermelon.

But it’s not just the tangible things you want to enjoy while you can. There are also the intangible things like daylight.

Enjoy the Extra Daylight

I remember working for a company headquartered in Maine. Besides the cold winters, the far-easterly location of the state made it perpetually night. You went to work when it was dark and by 4:00 pm it was dark again. Ugh.

Depending on where you lived it could eventually get dark before 5:00 pm. Now is the time to take advantage of the extra daylight. Go for an evening walk. Get outside and simply enjoy the daylight and the type of dusk that just stays for awhile.

You can also use the extra daylight to have a fun game of catch in the backyard. Or you can go for a meal at a nice restaurant with a porch and relax with a beautiful dinner outside. Enjoying the last of summer while you can will fuel a lot of great memories and experiences. You can do that with extra daylight, but also with the extra degrees.

Enjoy the Warm Weather

Depending on where you live, it might be just right to get outside and enjoy a nice morning stroll. You can enjoy the warm weather, and you can do something that you don’t normally get to do in the winter like take a hike.

And if it’s still too warm where you are to really enjoy the day outside, you can enjoy the evening. Take a look up at the stars and breathe in the evening air.

There are all kinds of ways that you can be enjoying the last of summer. It won’t be around much longer. Make the most of it.
