If you want to make life the best it can be, make it positive, especially if you don’t want to.
The Cost of Negativity
Negativity can take a toll on us. It wears on our relationships. It affects our health. It can even impact our career.
We’ve seen the charismatic and optimistic person who everyone adores being constantly promoted while the bitter, angry coworker stays stuck in the same job year after year.
But the bigger question is, how does this affect us? We can see how the extremes affect others, but when you’re in the middle, how much potential is there to move forward? What kind of changes can we make to improve our relationships, health, and opportunities?
The good news is that every time we choose positive over negative we’re better off than we were before. And there are three simple ways to make it positive.
Making it Positive
If you want to take your day and make it positive, it doesn’t have to be challenging or difficult. In fact, if you take small steps each day, over time they add up to amazing life changes for the better.
If you want to have a more positive life with all the benefits that includes, here are three simple steps you can take:
- Improve Your Language: This can have a huge impact on your outlook and your possibilities. It improves your focus toward what you want instead of what you are trying to avoid. For instance, instead of saying “I don’t want to be sick” say “I want to be well”. You will be amazed at the positive impact it has on your life. (You can read more about this in my post a simple change to better days).
- Improve Your Mood: Have you ever put together legos with kids? When you’re looking for a particular type of piece, it’s often easy to find, but if you try to look for two or three at once you’re usually less successful than if you try to look for them one at a time. Our brains focus on what we’re looking for and tend to tune out everything else. If you look for what’s wrong with life, you’ll find it. If you look for what’s right, you’ll find it too. Being grateful for what we have is a great way to focus on what’s positive.
- Improve Your Outlook: One of the trickiest parts of being positive is keeping a strong sense of belief in a positive outcome. Sometimes it’s hard to trust that what we’re doing is moving us in the right direction as if we’re moving forward when we can’t see the road. But that momentum helps us achieve what we want to achieve, so we need to believe in ourselves and what we’re doing.
If you want to have a great life, simply make it positive. Enjoy all that life has to offer. It may not always be perfect, but it’s a lot more fun when we enjoy it.
