Overcoming the Molasses of Life

What do you do when life has you trapped in molasses? Deep, thick molasses.

My Jam
There are a lot of things I write about. Some of them I know well. Sometimes I jump in and take chances on things that are new to me that I’m learning about. When you write about something, you either have to talk about things from a learning perspective or from a subject you know well.

When it comes to feeling that life has got you stuck, this… is… my… jam! I know this stuff. From moving to a new city without a car or knowing where I would live, to my own self-destructive choices, to trying my best to move forward when I didn’t even have the will to move, I get this stuff.

I am what you call a subject matter expert.

You’re not Alone, Honey
Sometimes life will simply inhibit us. It will wrap around us and make us feel like we can’t move. As we look for ways to move forward and progress to get out of our situations, we feel like we expend a huge amount of energy and get little to no results. It’s painful.

But it’s important to know two things about this:

  1. You are not alone. This is a common feeling.
  2. This is temporary. The situation you are in with all it’s complexities will change.

Sure there may be parts of your situation that will stay the same, but there are so many other factors that can change.

Don’t Syr Down. Syr up!
In my situation, I went from being about $20,000 in debt with huge child support payments, no car and no place to live, to having a beautiful 2-story, 3-bedroom home, no debt other than my mortgage, a corporation of my own with several digital properties (such as Wowful Living), several books of my own, and a budding video production company, all cash positive.

Yes, I still have child support payments, and yes, there are still times when I feel like I’m in molasses, even now.

But I can make progress while I struggle. I can move forward in the midst of this. You may try to lift weights that you can barely lift. You may do it every day, and for days you may struggle. After weeks, you will realize you can easily lift them. After months you can lift more if you keep pushing yourself.

Some Headline with the Word “Jelly”
Life is hard. Sometimes it feels like you are stuck. Somedays it feels pointless to get out of bed.

But standing in a bunch of molasses won’t get you out of it. You have to keep pushing. You have to keep moving forward. And the more you push, the more your muscles grow, allowing you to do more and be more. Eventually, you will get beyond it. It may take awhile, and some parts of it may never change, but, as they say, the way out is through.

We can stand here and stay here, or we can sweat it out and keep pushing despite the struggle. The fact that you are still here reading this shows that you are just the type of person that wants to see things through. This is written for you. You have the ability to move out of this. You have the ability to move forward despite whatever molasses life may have you in.

You are stronger than the molasses of life. You simply need to move forward.
