The Meaning of Trust

meaning of trust

Some people look at the world one way; other’s look at it differently. Sometimes that’s good and sometimes that might lead to misunderstandings, like the meaning of trust.

It may not mean what you think it means.

A Wide Variety of Views

There are some that trust people at different levels. Some simply don’t trust anyone and then wonder why there is no one to trust. Other people are way too trusting and wonder why there is no one trustworthy.

To understand why both of these people struggle, we have to understand the meaning of trust and how it applies to people like us.

A Necessary Ingredient

Trust is something everyone needs. You can’t do anything without it. You have to trust that the utility company will give you power. You have to trust that the grocery store you go to will stay stocked. You have to trust that the money you use will retain value.

Often our trust can be shaken, but we still hold a lot of trust every day. We have to. Even if we lose our job and struggle to find groceries and find ourselves worried about our health, we still trust that we have utilities and friends and opportunities. Hope is built on trust and there is no moving forward without hope.

The meaning of trust is wrapped up in hope and possibilities,` but it’s not what most people might think.

The Meaning of Trust

Trust isn’t about believing that people will do what we want. It isn’t about people never doing wrong by us. And it’s definitely not about expecting someone else to do things the way we would do them. Trust is much different.

Trust says “even though you do things differently, I believe you will do right by me.” It’s about letting go and letting someone else take the wheel. It’s about realizing that people are human and knowing they will mess up, yet believing that they will make it right. It’s about not trying to control someone else, but giving up control and accepting someone else’s perspective.

In short, the meaning of trust isn’t about us: it’s about opening our world to something much bigger than us. It’s about believing in all the possibilities that we can’t even fathom. It’s about hope.

If you want to live a life that’s beyond your scope of imagination, you have to find trustworthy people and begin to trust them. It will open your world to a whole new realm of possibilities.
