Do you want to know the recipe for success? It’s not as complex as you might think.
The Recipe People Expect
Most people think that success is about having the right amounts of the right ingredients: “3 parts perseverance, 2 parts smarts, 4 parts strong relationships, and a pinch of chutzpah.” That may make for a tasty combo, but the recipe for success is quite simple.
In fact, the recipe for success is full of one particular ingredient: turtle soup.
That Old Chestnut
Remember the story about the tortoise and the hare? It’s a simple story about ability vs. diligence. The hare could easily win the race, but he doesn’t. Why? Because he has no focus. While the tortoise has one goal: to win the race, the hare has many competing goals: to take a nap, to mock the tortoise, and to feel superior.
The hare also has no discipline. Sure, he was having fun and he has the stuff he needs to win, but while the tortoise was doing the work of winning the race, the hare was taking a nap.
Also, the tortoise stayed consistent. He simply did the work that needed to get done each step of the way while the hare relied on his abilities.
The Recipe for Success
The recipe for success is simple: keep moving forward. Don’t stop. Don’t give up. We see so many people that seem smarter, more well connected, more financially secure, and more able than we are. We often look at them and think “why bother?” We assume that we can never be in the race, so don’t ever take a chance.
But so often it’s not about any of those things. It’s simply about persistence: diligently continuing to move forward, constantly staying aware of where you should be headed, and staying on track. There may be some adjustments, but there is always momentum.
Do you want the recipe for success? It’s just a little turtle soup: just keep moving forward.
