You Always Get What You Settle For

Life is pretty simple: it’s hard. It will do what it can to take away from your hopes and dreams. So what are you going to do about it?

Life Just Doesn’t Care
Life just is. It’s unyielding. It’s like a bull heading in a particular direction and it doesn’t care if it runs you over. You can saddle up, get out of the way, or get trampled. No matter what you do, it doesn’t care, and it doesn’t care if your dreams get trampled or thrown aside; it will simply keep moving forward.

What Is it Worth To You
The real question is, what are your dreams worth to you? Do you really want to be a writer? Have you decided how long you will pursue that option before you give up? Six months? A year? Ten years?

Do you really want to be in show business? How many rejections will you survive before you throw in the towel? One? Ten? One hundred?

Do you really want to work for yourself? How many twelve hour days will you be willing to work before you say enough? Thirty? Sixty? Three hundred?

What You Settle For
Because if the answer to any of those is anything other than “I will never give up”, then you will get what you settle for. When life comes and bowls you over, you will settle. You will say “I just can’t do this” or “It’s not worth it” and just like your words, your life will become a lie.

So if something is really your dream, not something that would be cool or something you find fun, but something that seems like your purpose in life, you have to ask yourself “am I willing to do this until the day I die, even without seeing results?” If your answer is yes, then you are on the road to fulfillment.

Because if your only goal is for life to be easy, you’re already settling at life. You’ve simply decided to settle on your dreams too. But you can see your dreams through. You can fight that bull. You can grab it by the horns and make a difference. Don’t settle. Don’t stop. Be the you that makes yourself shine! Because you should never settle for anything short of being just who you were meant to be.
